Your enemies O Lord,
are rising up against you,
those nations in rebellion against you.
Some who think they’re serving you –
but in truth their hearts are far from you.
And the leaders of our own nation,
who think they can blaze their own trails through the swampland,
making their own paths for themselves –
but leading to places they really wouldn’t choose to go.
It’s not that you haven’t told them,
but they refuse to listen.
In truth they refuse even to acknowledge you,
though they try to put on a good performance.
They pretend to embrace whatever will
temporarily serve their own purpose,
of building their own little castle in the sand.
Rise up O Lord;
Take your stand against them.
Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth take their stand
and the rulers gather together
against the LORD
and against his Anointed One.
“Let us break their chains,” they say,
“and throw off their fetters.”
The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
Then he rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath
Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear
and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry
and you be destroyed in your way,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet,
till her righteousness shines out like the dawn,
her salvation like a blazing torch.
The nations will see your righteousness,
and all kings your glory;
I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the LORD,
give yourselves no rest,
and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem
and makes her the praise of the earth.
