This time that we find ourselves in… As we watch world events, we hear about dramatically rising antisemitism, especially in France and the Ukraine.
It feels like a scary time. Certainly none of us wants to find ourselves among those who stand against God’s chosen people.
But yet there’s another side to it all. As we reflect on the signs of the times – this period of lunar eclipses at Passover and Sukkot, aligned to say something to the Jewish people… Looking back on history we see that these have often happened at times when God was telling His people to get up and go. Not always pleasant, happy times. It must have been scary when they were kicked out of Spain in 1492 and it seemed that they had nowhere to go.
But there was also their initial Exodus from Egypt in 1446 BC. And their return from Babylon about 536 BC. And once again returning to a nation of their own in 1948 and 1967. All marked by signs that the Holy One had placed in the heavens. Amazingly, as we now know from our understanding of how the Solar System works, He put all these signs in place at the dawn of time, before the first man set foot on earth. Yet He knew exactly how history would unfold – exactly where to place each of these signs. He is the Creator and Master Designer, ultimately in control of all that happens.
And just as in the year 33 He permitted His own people to rise up against the Messiah so that His salvation might reach the whole world… He’s now permitting other nations to rise up against His people. A scary time, yes.
But once again it’s playing right into God’s plan. It’s time once again for God’s people to get up and go. But this time, to finally come home – to bring to completion what was begun in 1948 and 1967.
Let’s remember our brothers and sisters in Jerusalem – and also those far away whom even now the Holy One is leading to return to their homeland. Pray for their protection, and for their guidance and provision.
See, I will beckon to the Gentiles,
I will lift up my banner to the peoples;
they will bring your sons in their arms
and carry your daughters on their shoulders.
