Today we celebrate our independence. Independence from… well, from other nations which don’t share our values. From corrupt systems of government that use and abuse their people rather than administering liberty and justice.
Yet though it’s independence we celebrate, it was in dependence that we achieved this position and by which we must maintain it. Dependence on each other. On those who serve to guard and protect us. And above all, on the One who carved out this place in the world for us – a place to allow freedom and justice to flourish for a little while. In all we do, may we look to Him for guidance, that this nation may continue to serve His purposes, as a haven for freedom and justice.
