(See https://snofriacus.wordpress.com/2012/11/19/conjunctions-of-saturn-jupiter-and-mars-with-regulus for the full conjunction data) Double and triple conjunctions with a star can happen to all of the planets whose orbits are farther from the Sun than Earth’s orbit. Three of these – Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars – are bright enough to serve as signs in the sky. For the ordinary observer the others – Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto – show up only in more subtle ways, just influencing the paths of the visible planets. They serve to fine-tune the celestial clock, placing the conjunctions of the visible planets just exactly where and when the Designer wants them to be. My understanding of these things has developed gradually – first only being aware of Jupiter’s conjunctions with Regulus, then noticing that Saturn too must be included in order to fill out the pattern of correlations. Recently a similar thing happened with Mars. In order to make the best sense of some events in 500-something BC, I had to start paying attention to conjunctions of Mars along with those of Jupiter and Saturn. So I’ve been working on expanding my database of double and triple conjunctions to include the planet Mars, and today I used this to take a fresh look at our current times. I have to pass on the amazing correlations that I now see in 1948: 1947AD Mars triple (11/28/1947, 2/15/1948, 5/16/1948)
- 11/29/1947: The UN voted 33 to 13 in favor of the establishment of the State of Israel as a national homeland for the Jewish people
- 11/30/1947 – 5/15/1948: First stage of the Israeli War of Independence
- 2/16/1948: First organized Arab attack
- 5/14/1948: Founding of the State of Israel officially declared by David Ben Gurion
- 5/15/1948: The British leave the country
- 5/16/1948 – 7/20/1948: Second stage of the Israeli War of Independence
Notice the dates. The three dates in parentheses at the top are the dates of the three conjunctions of Mars with Regulus. At least the first and last of these are within a day or two of significant historical events. The UN vote. The resulting war. Israel’s declaration of independence. The end of the British occupation. Why this correlation? Were the leaders watching these signs in the sky and manipulating events to make them match up? Not likely. I doubt that anybody paid any attention at all to these signs when they were happening. Just like the signs pointing to Jesus’ birth. About the star pointing to Jesus’ birth, Rick Larson at www.bethlehemstar.net/setting-the-stage/what-was-the-star/ says, “That Herod had to ask when the Star appeared is a powerful clue (to what the Star was). Anyone can glance up and see planets and stars. That is the nature of things in the sky. But, apparently, one could look up at the Star without realizing it. Herod didn’t know of it. It took magi to explain it. But once the Star was pointed out, all Jerusalem went abuzz, and Herod jumped into murderous action. A reasonable hypothesis is that the Star must have been something in the normal night sky which was striking when explained.” Now again in 1947/48 we see signs in the sky, which this time probably everyone missed, but which when pointed out carry a striking message. The message is basically one of authorship. Who was the author of these events? Who brought about this restoration of the nation of Israel so many centuries after its destruction? Was it the British government? The American government? The UN? The Jewish Zionists? Just by the power of men, I don’t think the restoration of Israel could even have happened. There was and still is fierce opposition to it from many corners of the Middle East. Why were Israel’s adversaries unable to prevent it from happening? It certainly can’t be said that they didn’t try. But they were unable to prevent it because there was something more here than just the power of men. Who can put a star in the sky? Who controls how those stars will align and when? That’s a power which belongs only to the one who was there at the beginning of time – the One who put the planets in their orbits. It belongs only to the Creator of heaven and earth. He and only He can be the one who marked these events with signs in the sky for us all to see. But why? Why these particular events? Things are happening every day. Why would God choose these particular ones to be marked by signs in the sky? Because He has a master plan, and this is part of it. As much as we like to think that we ourselves are in control of our own destinies, God hasn’t given over all control to men. God has decreed that certain things are to happen and when they are to happen. This is one of those things. Way back in Old Testament times, God said through one of his prophets:
But you, O Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend, I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Isaiah 41:8-11
It says, “I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you.” These words are for us, today. At the time of Isaiah Israel hadn’t yet been scattered, so this gathering from the ends of the earth hadn’t yet happened. A few hundred years later God called His people back from their exile in Babylon – but just from Babylon, not from the ends of the earth. It wasn’t until this century that God called His people back from the farthest corners of the earth. So it’s for today, in this present time, that God is saying to the nation of Israel, “I have chosen you and have not rejected you.” In another of Isaiah’s prophecies he describes this miraculous restoration of the nation of Israel:
Before she goes into labor, she gives birth; before the pains come upon her, she delivers a son. Who has ever heard of such a thing? Who has ever seen such things? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.
Do I bring to the moment of birth and not give delivery?” says the LORD. “Do I close up the womb when I bring to delivery?” says your God. “Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice greatly with her, all you who mourn over her. For you will nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you will drink deeply and delight in her overflowing abundance. Isaiah 66:7-11
So this thing that happened in 1948, happened because God had decreed that it would happen. Hundreds of years before Christ He decreed it through the prophets. And long, long before that, when He first set the planets in their orbits, even then He had all these events clearly in mind, when with exquisite precision He set in motion a system of signs that would mark these events in the sky. It happened because God decreed it. Does this mean that He loves the Jews and hates the Arabs? No, not at all. God has a master plan to rescue all of humanity from the control and influence of the principalities and powers that have held us in bondage since Adam’s first sin. This is a part of that master plan. A part of that master plan was accomplished when Jesus came to earth and gave His life to pay the penalty for our sin. Through Jesus the way was opened up for every Jew, every Arab, and every other person on earth to be forgiven for our rebellion against the Creator, so that His power can be active in our lives, guarding our hearts from sin. Many Jews (and many Arabs, and many from other nations as well) haven’t yet opened their hearts to this, but even this comes as no surprise to God. Despite their present lack of faithfulness to Him, by His decree God has chosen to make Israel a nation again, and through this nation to complete His plan of redemption for all mankind. I consider it a great privilege to be living in these times, to be able to watch God’s hand as He reveals more and more of Himself, and unfolds His plan of the ages.
