Linguistic Observation for the day –
“It’s not optional” vs. “It’s not an option”

Occasionally I hear people get these phrases mixed up, using one when they probably really meant the other. When I stop and think about it, it seems that they actually mean quite different things –
“It has to happen” vs. “It can’t happen”

What’s really uncomfortable is when both are true at the same time… what you might call being stuck between a rock and a hard place, beyond any human capacity to fix things, entirely dependent now on our advocate in heaven.
